VIDEO: Watch Don Coscarelli Crash an R/C Mini-'Cuda into the Tall Man!

Move over, Regman. There's someone else behind the wheel of this 'Cuda.

R/C car enthusiast Alex Khan very recently attended this year's Fantasm convention in Orlando where he met Phantasm creator Don Coscarelli. (Recall that Alex made an incredible Phantasm Ravager R/C Battle-Cuda several years back.) In meeting Coscarelli, Alex was able to share his standard R/C 'Cuda and even gave the filmmaker a chance to drive it around the convention floor!

Naturally, Coscarelli plows the muscle car right into the Tall Man and a dwarf. Hot as love!

Check out the video below!

This Phantasm II Sticker Sold for $257 because, uh... reasons?

This kind of blows my mind, but remember those nifty Prism stickers from the 80s? The kind you'd get from quarter machines at the supermarket? Well, they're super collectible now, especially ones depicting horror movies of the era. And Phantasm II is one of the more collectible ones, apparently. We've seen P2 stickers fetch as high as $75 on eBay, but this...

This afternoon, a Phantasm II prism sticker sold for $257 after a fierce bidding war! I'm not sure I've ever paid that much for a Phantasm collectible, much less a sticker! But I can't deny that it does look cool!

I guess the moral of the story is that if you've got a few old Prism stickers laying around, definitely list them on eBay!

40th Anniv. Replica of the Rarest Phantasm Collectible Ever

This post contains a bit of Phantasm history and some spiffy new fan art of sorts. The original Phantasm made a pretty big splash for distributor AVCO Embassy when it first premiered back in 1979. Don Coscarelli and Angus Scrimm toured all over the world promoting it, the latter in full Tall Man garb and makeup. At the film's Hollywood premiere, arriving guests received a unique party favor - a yellow finger in a plastic case with the film's title emblazoned upon it! How cool is that? Only one of these rare treasures has ever turned up over the years. It has remained securely tucked away in the vast collection of series hearse coordinator Guy Thorpe. (It was gifted to him by Coscarelli himself.)

Flash forward to present day. Super phan Matt Naylor has created an incredible replica of the 1979 premiere collectible. Limited to four, these marvelous recreations went to undisclosed recipients in the phan community. If you follow the Phantasm Exhumed accounts on social media, you may recall Matt as the romantic phan who proposed to his fiancé at the Dunsmuir Mansion - aka Morningside Mortuary! Great work on both counts, boooooy!

Strange Advertising for Italian Phantasm Box Set

Italian distributor Midnight Factory has just released a pretty cool Blu-ray box set of the entire Phantasm franchise. This release packs six discs, meaning there's an entire disc devoted to bonus features. It also includes nifty postcard prints and an exclusive full-color booklet. Given how cool all that is, I guess we can forgive the inclusion of James LeGros on the cover instead of A. Michael Baldwin. (Happy belated birthday to Mr. Baldwin, by the way.) It wasn't like they just recycled the old Universal poster art - they had an artist draw this cover based on that!

Even stranger than LeGros being featured over Baldwin is this recent advertisement for the set. Is that masked man... supposed to be... the Tall Man? Yikes! As weird as it is, this ad is also kind of cool. I dig it. And judging by the blades, that sphere hails from the old Anchor Bay UK DVD set from many years back.

So marvelous to finally see all three franchise heroes represented in one packaging. Has that ever happened before either on a poster or home video cover? I don't think so.

Scratch-N-Sniff Tall Man Stickers - Sure, why not?

I thought I'd seen it all. Really, I did. Then I came across this tonight: Scratch-and-sniff Phantasm stickers! An easy $3.59 will get you a 48-pack of these stylish adhesives, which emit the sweet aroma of strawberry licorice when scratched. A shame they don't come smelling like lavender. Doesn't that seem like the obvious choice? The Wacky Whiffers Etsy product page comes with a warning: Stickers are extremely strong and potent in scent!

Horror fans should delight in learning that other Wacky Whiffer stickers include Freddy Krueger and Chucky the Killer Doll among other horror icons.

Russian Novel Mixes Phantasm II with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

From the mega-weird section of the Phantasm Archives comes: Turtles-Ninjas Against the Long Old Man, His Assistant Dwarfs and Shiny Balls, a 1995 Russian novel that mashes together Phantasm II and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You can see images of the book's interior below.

While this crossover is clearly taking inspiration from Phantasm II, its "Long Old Man" looks far more like the Train Man from Matrix Reloaded than Angus Scrimm's Tall Man. The book's translated description reads: "On the film "Phantasm II". Turtles together with April come to a small town in the Himalayas, where something strange happens. Here settled a mad old scientist who invented the elixir of life. With his help, he revives the dead and turns them into his army of invincible zombies." Eager to own this bizarre item? You're in luck - the book is currently up for auction on eBay!

Phantasm's Fortune Teller Gets Her Own Collector's Pin!

We've seen the silver sphere transformed into an enamel pin. We've also seen the Tall Man given similar treatment. But this is an altogether new creation! Etsy seller The Sally Hardesty Collection has released a spectacular 1.5" pin of the Fortune Teller from the original Phantasm! These come in standard "Graveyard Noir," which is limited to seventy pieces, and also in a "Red Planet" edition, which is limited to thirty pieces. These pins cost $10 a pop plus shipping.

Loving the fact that the pin maker is mailing these pins attached to custom printed Phantasm tarot cards. A very nice touch.

Rare Phantasm Items Hit eBay

If you haven't heard, Phantasm series crewmember Kristen Deem is moving and parting with some rare items from her personal Phantasm collection. We've already seen two authentic Phantasm II silver sphere props come and go. She has now added a handful of new items to her ongoing eBay auction. Pictured above is a one-of-a-kind Tall Man mask that Kristen made from a production lifecast back in the 80's. She can be prominently seen throughout the bonus materials for both recent Phantasm Blu-Ray Collections. Below you'll find a list of her items currently for auction.

Ravager's David Hartman Releases New Album!

It seems like just yesterday I was writing here on the Archives about Phantasm Ravager director David Hartman's debut musical album "The Art of Monsters" by Zorgon. I mean, it practically was yesterday as the album dropped in March of this year. Now get this - Hartman has wasted no time in churning out a follow-up Zorgon release called "Walking with Monsters." The album hit iTunes and Amazon yesterday and appears to be MP3 only at the moment.

If you happen to like 80s synth or the musical stylings of Daft Punk or John Carpenter, then this album is for you! "Walking with Monsters" is currently a great value at just under $10 for nineteen tracks, which is more than an hour of terrific music. I've already given it a listen and am immediately declaring "Blood Cop" and "SynthCave" to be my favorite tracks.

Check it out on Amazon here!

eBay Turns Up Grossest Phantasm Prop Yet!

Phantasm series crewmember Kristen Deem is moving and parting with several rare items that have been in her collection for decades. We've already seen two fantastic sphere props hit the auction block.... and now she's offered up literal pieces of the Tall Man's melted skin from the ending of Phantasm II. Read on for all the gory details!

Kristen writes on the auction page: "On March 21, 1988, principal photography for "Phantasm II" had wrapped and we were well into filming a series of "insert shots," SPFX sequences, etc. These shots are generally close-up or FX shots that take awhile to film and are left until after the main cast and crew have completed their work. On March 21st I spent the day working at our Chatsworth warehouse, and watched them film Angus Scrimm recreating his "meltdown" scene (where the Tall Man is dissolved from the inside out by hydrochloric acid-spiked embalming fluid). After this, I also watched the SPFX team use a blowdryer on a gelatin prop hand to simulate the Tall Man's hand melting/bleeding).

After filming ended that day, Mark Shostrom removed the "meltdown" latex patches/appliances from Angus' face, and Angus gave a sample to me as a keepsake (most everything went into the garbage because all sorts of perishable items were used on these appliances--milk, chicken skin, etc. The latex patches I have are mainly just latex covered with makeup, taken directly from Angus' face. From what I can seen in the plastic bag, there is a large patch (almost 2.5 inches wide) and then a much smaller patch. Everything has been stored unopened/untouched for twenty-nine years in plastic zip-lock baggies from that day. I don't remember exactly what part of his face these came from."

I double dare the winner to open that plastic bag once you get it. Imagine all that sealed in freshness! Get your bid in on this bloody good item here!

Rare Phantasm II Production Item Hits eBay

The eBay fun continues! Phantasm series crewmember Kristen Deem has posted another rare treasure to the auction website. This time it's a whopping 193 pages of music spotting notes from Phantasm II's post-production! So not only is this bundle production used.... it's also one of a kind! Considering how much people love both Phantasm II and its fantastic action-horror score, there's bound to be interest in this.

Kristen writes in the item's description: EXTREMELY RARE copy of the "Phantasm II" post production music spotting notes. Includes entire script action/dialogue, along with Code and Time counters (from ADR Post Production and Music editing) dated May 20 - May 21, 1988. This private notebook has been in storage in my closet for over twenty-eight years. I was a crew member on "Phantasm II" for almost one year, credited as Storyboard Artist and Unit Publicist. But I wore a lot of other (uncredited) hats on the production as well. My final assignment on the film was during post production in May and June 1988. I was called into Todd AO studios on the Disney Studio lot in Burbank, where I got to meet and sit with Fred Myrow, the composer (for P1 and P2)--a real honor for me. Over the course of a few weeks, I got to watch Angus Scrimm looping ADR sessions, and to watch Mr. Myrow working with Don Coscarelli on inserting music into the final cut of the film (I can't describe how powerful and overwhelming it was watching them loop the end credit music in that huge sound stage).

For my assignment I was tasked with creating the "music cues" timing notes--logging both dialogue and timing so that foreign exhibitors could translate/dub the film into their own languages. I think these music spotting notes might be a final extension of my work as it mirrors a lot of what I did back then. In any case, it looks very thorough and is quite fascinating to read. Booklet is 193 pages long, with one page of handwritten notes. Pages are very slightly yellowed with age, and jacket has some very minor wear on corners (from shipping cross country from my residence in Los Angeles). I am moving by the end of this month and am reluctantly getting rid of most of my "Phantasm" collection due to transportation/storage considerations. This booklet is probably the most unique and rare item of my collection, likely never seen before in public."
