Blood Thirsty Thursdays presents PHANTASM

If you live in or near San Antonio, Texas, there's a Phantasm event coming up that you won't want to miss. The Blood Thirsty Thursdays folks (namely Kelly Warren Hammond) are hosting a viewing party of Anchor Bay Entertainment's Phantasm DVD later this month, complete with bonus features. The BTT crowd will also be giving away copies of the Anchor Bay release autographed by the Tall Man himself, Angus Scrimm! In addition, the evening will feature a performance by SATX's Grotesque Burlesque Troupe The Devil Bunnies. Advance tickets are $10.

The party kicks off at 7PM on Thursday, June 30 and the film begins at 8PM. To buy advance tickets or to learn more information, check out the event page on Facebook. To view the event page on the Woodlawn Theater website, click here.

UPDATED: Monster Mania 18 Pics & Videos

This past weekend's Monster Mania 18 convention in Baltimore, Maryland has come and gone and I really must once again applaud Dave Hagan and his team for organizing yet another classy show. Dubbed "Return to Crystal Lake," it was primarily a reunion for the Friday the 13th crowd, but also featured non-Friday celebrities Lance Henriksen and our very own Angus Scrimm. Amusingly, the Tall Man actor was a top contender for longest autograph line of the weekend, surpassing even the roomful of actors who'd played Jason Voorhees. Angus' only competition for the most popular celebrity title was the equally popular Friday series creator Sean Cunningham.

Continue reading for a dozen or so pictures and a humorous video of Angus making his way to the VIP Party on Friday night.

With Angus on Thursday night.

Phantasm Soap?!

I've seen some strange Phantasm collectibles in my short time... homemade masks, cell phone covers, decorated toilet-seats and sphere-bras... but this particular item rates a new high for both strange and cool! (Well, maybe it ties the custom-decorated toilet seat.) I give you SpellBound Soapworks' Custom Phantasm Sphere Soap! Because even the Tall Man needs to wash his hands SOMETIME.

The sphere soap comes in a variety of scents... might I recommend LAVENDER? The cost is $7 a bar, which doesn't sound too bad for sculpted, hand-painted soap. To order, visit this page and scroll halfway down until you see the sphere.

They also have Freddy, Jason, Jigsaw, Michael Myers, Leatherface and a host of other cool soaps for horror collectors.

Phil Sawyer's Homemade Figures

Longtime fan and Reggie look-a-like Phil Sawyer recently sent in the following images of his homemade Phantasm figures... and they're terrific! He's outfitted his Tall Man with a silver sphere and armed the Regman with his signature weapon, the four-barrel shotgun. (Anybody else notice Ash sneaking up on the Tall Man in that one pic?) Phil made these figures with the help of his son. Way to go, fellas!

Phil also informs me that his fan film project, Phantasm 4.1 is nearing completion. Click the title for a sneak peak at the short, which features Phil as the Reggie (complete with four-barrel and Cuda) as well as a ghastly version of the Tall Man!

PHANTASM BEYOND GAME - A Must See!

Phantasm Community user BLADEGHOST (game designer John Ivan) has recently completed an extensive multi-level mod for Doom 3 called PHANTASM BEYOND. By utilizing characters, situations and locations from the Phantasm films, Bladeghost has allowed players to enter into their favorite Phantasm scenes and battle all manner of undead enemy (including dwarves, spheres, finger bugs and the Tall Man himself!). As evidenced in the thirty-plus photos included in this post, Bladeghost has magnificently captured both the likeness and atmosphere of locales such as Perigord Mausoleum, the Pearson home and good old Morningside itself. He's also hidden a handful of surprises in the game, some of which are hiding in the photos below.

The mod can be downloaded for free by anyone and can be played on both PC's and MAC's so long as you have a copy of DOOM 3 with the most recent patch installed. It's all quite easy to setup, but if you need help, feel free to turn to this thread on the Phantasm Community forum for help. Continue reading to see more than thirty screen captures from the game and several video previews.

Elias Disney was a Tall Man?

Fans of the Scrimm, journey back with me three decades to the year that gave us President Reagan and MTV. It's here in 1981 that we'll find one of the Tall Man performer's more rare and elusive appearances as Elias Disney in Walt Disney: One Man's Dream (credited here under real name Lawrence Guy). Though the garish television special featured song and dance by Mac Davis, Dick Van Dyke and Marie Osmond, it featured no such gaiety for Angus' role as stern father to dreamers Walt and Roy. Our look back at this special comes to us courtesy of one of the very first Phantasm Archivists, Kristen Deem. Continue reading for the skinny and to see video excerpts of his performance.

Gallery: Texas Frightmare Convention

The monstrously big Texas Frightmare Weekend played out this past weekend in Dallas, Texas. Among the show's many highlights were Phantasm guests Angus Scrimm, Michael Baldwin, Bob Ivy and Don Coscarelli. Phantasm Archives friend and native Texan Fred Russell was on hand for the event and has shared with us these fantastic photos of the cast, a fine Hemi-Cuda and several unique hearses that showed up (click any image to enlarge it).
