Coscarelli Teases Sixth Phantasm in New Book!

Word has hit via Dread Central that the new 120-page Phantasm Compendium book contained within Well Go's upcoming Blu-Ray Collection has Don Coscarelli speaking on a possible sixth Phantasm movie. His comments on the subject are below. You can read them and the rest of the Compendium when North American Phantasm Collection hits shelves on April 11. This begs the question... is Phantasm more than the sum of the original cast? Or is Phantasm all about the spheres, the 'Cudas, the mythology and the atmosphere? It's an interesting subject to ponder.

“All I can tell you about [Phantasm VI] is rest assured that we are constantly researching and experimenting here in the Phantasm labs, so who knows what we might cook up in the near future. However, I do think that Phantasm: Ravager will be the last you see of the original Phantasm actors in the series.”

New Pics of North American Phantasm Blu-Ray Collection!

Courtesy Amazon, we now have a better look at packaging for the upcoming North American Phantasm Blu-Ray Collection from Well Go USA. Although we don't yet have a complete list of extras, we do know that the Blu-Ray set will come with a 21x27 reversible poster, a commemorative book ("The Phantasm Compendium") and reversible covers for the five film cases in case you prefer them to look more uniform. Major points to Well Go USA for including the original poster artworks on this set!

Both this set and the also upcoming UK Phantasm Collection from Arrow Video are shaping up to be amazing releases. They'll each come with their own exclusive books and what is sure to be a treasure-trove of supplemental materials both old and new. What a great time to be a phan!

Arrow Video Teases Phantasm Blu-Ray Collection

The folks at Arrow Video have unveiled a design mock-up for their upcoming six-disc Phantasm Blu-Ray collection. You can see some of these photos below and even more over on their Facebook page. The hotly anticipated set, which will be limited to 10,000 units, also comes with a brand new silver sphere replica and 152-page retrospective book. Phans should take note, however, that this release will be limited to Region 2 (Europe), so you'll need a region-free player if you plan to watch in North America.

Arrow's initial list of bonus features packed a ton of previously seen material. They have yet to release a comprehensive list of supplements, though early word is that they have been hard at work on a slew of newly created extras! Fret not if you're a North American phan - Well Go have also been hard at work on their own Phantasm Blu-Ray collection.

Huge North American Phantasm Box Set Announced!

Mere days after Arrow announced their mammoth new sphere-replica-packing Blu-Ray set, Well Go has unleashed some details on Amazon regarding their own upcoming box set for the United States/Canada. Curious that they decided to release this announcement now as the supplement list is woefully incomplete! But it is marvelous to see the return of so many older supplements to this box set. The six-disc Blu-ray set is currently priced at $79.98 (expect that to drop a bit!) and expected to hit on March 28, 2017.

Does this mean we currently have a boxset war going down? Arrow vs Well Go? Place your bets, winner kills all! You can click the spiffy new artwork to your right to see it larger.

Few horror movie franchises are as iconic as Don Coscarelli’s Phantasm series. From its deadly flying silver spheres through to its hooded dwarf minions, and of course, the towering figure of arch villain The Tall Man himself, the imagery conjured up by the Phantasm films remains etched in the psyche of genre fans everywhere.

Beginning with the 1979 original through to 2016’s Phantasm: Ravager, the five films which make up the Phantasm series follow the young Mike Baldwin as he battles against the enigmatic “Tall Man” - an extraterrestrial being intent on harvesting the human race as slaves for his home planet. Aided by friend Reggie and his trusty four-barrelled shotgun, Mike resolves to vanquish the Tall Man before he wipes out humanity altogether.

Brought together for the first time on Blu-ray - including a stunning new 4K restoration of the original Phantasm overseen by J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek Into Darkness) - the Phantasm series is back with added balls!

Angus Scrimm's Final Film Screening Soon

The Phantasm Archives has received word that Angus Scrimm's final film, Dances with Werewolves, will be having a special public screening later this month. Angus plays the lovable Neumann, a vagrant character. We can also debut a new still of our beloved Tall Man from the project!

The official press release reads, "George R.R. Martin's Jean Cocteau Cinema will host a special screening of Angus Scrimm's final film, Dances with Werewolves, the night of January 27. Guests will include cast members Tatiana DeKhtyar, Omar Paz Trujillo, Lauren Parkinson, and Madeleine Wade. Also on hand will be composer Don Preston, singer/songwriter Kasey Lansdale, and co-writer/producer/co-director Dan Golden. The Jean Cocteau Cinema is located at 418 Montezuma Ave., Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501. "

New Italian Phantasm Book Now Available

On the heels of Rue Morgue's Phantasm companion announcement earlier this month comes word from Italy that publisher Weird Books have debuted their own Phantasm tome. Titled Phantasm: l’Universo di Tall Man, the book is authored by Luigi Boccia, Lorenzo Ricciardi, Giada Cecchinelli, Nicola Lombardi, Fabio Giovannini and Dustin McNeill (yes, yours truly!). My contribution is a small piece in tribute to the power and legacy of Angus Scrimm's performance as the Tall Man ("Tribute to a Tall Man.")

Phantasm: l’Universo di Tall Man spans 162 pages and is entirely in Italian. The book features new interviews with Don Coscarelli, David Hartman and Reggie & Gigi Bannister. It is available for purchase now from the publisher's website.

For those of you who speak Italian, the official description reads: "L’unico libro in Italia che racconta la saga di Phantasm.
