New Blu-Ray Details for Phantasm Remastered & Ravager

Exciting new details have surfaced over at Diabolik DVD for the December 6 Blu-Ray/DVD releases of both Phantasm Remastered and Phantasm Ravager. Unless the deleted scenes on Remastered have been expanded upon, there is only one new feature on the disc (the Graveyard Carz episode) and a significant handful of features missing from the previous MGM and Anchor Bay DVDs. Still, the obvious main attraction of that disc will be the gorgeous new version of the original film itself.

User 'bigphan1990' has also posted this Phantasm Ravager Blu-Ray artwork to the PhantasmCommunity.com forums without mentioning a source. Whether it's official artwork or phan-art, I don't know but it looks pretty sinister either way! As for the disc itself, the deleted scenes and outtakes material should prove very interesting!

VIDEO: Memorial Tribute to Angus Scrimm

Gather round, fellow phans, I want to share something special with you. To celebrate the release of the newest Phantasm film here in my home state of North Carolina, I put together a short tribute video called JOURNEY TO RAVAGER that features rare behind the scenes material from all five films. The video concludes with a memorial segment in honor of Angus Scrimm, which I've now posted online and you can view below.

JOURNEY TO RAVAGER played before screenings of both Phantasm Remastered and Phantasm Ravager from October 7 to the 13th at the historic Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC. It features an amazing musical composition by composer Lito Velasco inspired by the classic Phantasm theme.

The video has thus far been warmly received and reposted by sites like Bloody-Disgusting, Dread Central and iHorror. I hope you dig it and, as always, long live the Tall Man! Mucho thanks to Lito, Kristen Deem, Guy Thorpe and Peter Marullo for their contributions to the project.

More Ravager Reviews including FANGORIA

Four new reviews have come online for Phantasm Ravager and you can find pullquotes/links to each of them below. The first three are overwhelmingly positive while the last one is titled "Phantasm Ravager Disappoints," - yet even that one manages to find several very positive things to say about the sequel. That brings me to a point I'd like to make.

Negative reviews exist. Ignoring them or not reading/talking about them doesn't make them go away. Sure, they will most likely be drowned out by a flood of positive notices, but they still exist and that's perfectly okay. We are Phantasm phans, not sheep. We are allowed to be critical thinkers and judge each installment for ourselves. Not liking one film or one element of Phantasm doesn't make you any less of a "true phan," whatever the hell that is. Plus, reading differing opinions of these marvelous films can inform and enlighten our own understandings of what we do and do not like about them. They are simply part of the conversation about any film.

So... having said that, I'll continue to post both positive and negative reviews here.

NEWS: Ravager was NOT Angus Scrimm's Final Film!

Despite being touted as such, it has now been revealed that Phantasm Ravager was not Angus Scrimm's final film performance! That distinction goes to the upcoming Dances with Werewolves, which is co-directed by Dan Golden who previously directed Angus in Satanic opposite Jeffrey Combs. Angus's supporting role of Neumann was filmed some years after he completed his work on Ravager but before his health took a turn for the worse.

There's no word yet on when Angus's final film will be released, but rest assured it will be posted here once announced. You can view its IMDb listing here. (Fingers crossed that there are more secretive Angus Scrimm performances waiting for us in the years to come. That would be terrific.)
