Secret Phantasm Project

It's amazing how news gets garbled throughout the internet, particularly regarding Phantasm. The latest scoop is that there's a Secret Phantasm Project being worked on (and INDEED, there is) and that I've leaked a photo from it, which I haven't. The photo in mention is of Reggie and can be seen on your right (click to enlarge).

I did not leak this photo - someone in the Reggie Bannister camp leaked it to the IMDb galleries and then, probably realizing their error, removed it from the website, but not before I'd already saved it. I can, however, promise you that the photo is truly from the new Phantasm project. This image and below comments made by Reggie Bannister were recently reposted on dozens of horror websites across the internet, sometimes with incorrect facts attributed to me. All I did on the Phantasm Community forum was post the photo with Reggie's comments and affirm that they were working on something "big," which was certainly true at the time and still seems to be.

So what is the secret project? A webseries? A short film? Something else? Reggie also recently made a comment about how very "episodic" the Phantasm films are. Make of that what you will.

Phantasm in HorrorHound #17

I'm very proud to announce that I've helped put together a massive retrospective for the upcoming HorrorHound #17 on Phantasm. The beautiful cover art seen below was specifically created for the issue by the marvelous Nathan Thomas Milliner. My contributions include the main nine-page retrospective and a side article detailing the five infamous unproduced Phantasm sequels. Bonus content includes a Phantasm themed installment of Sean Clark's Horror's Hallowed Grounds and an interview with Don Coscarelli himself!

Scrimm and LeGros Reunite!

On Wednesday night, Angus Scrimm attended a sold-out screening of his new picture, I Sell The Dead, at the LA Film Festival. He was there along with Glenn McQuaid, Larry Fessenden, assoc. producers Peter Phok and Brent Kunkle, composer Jeff Grace, sound designer and up-and-coming Glass Eye director Graham Reznick, Dominic Monaghan, Ron Perlman and the lovely Brenda Cooney, all of whom participated in a Q&A after the sold-out screening.

Also in attendance was another Glass Eye Pix veteran actor, James LeGros of Phantasm II fame! Scrimm told the Phantasm Archives that it was "heartwarming" to reunite with his co-star after so many years. LeGros is set to star in the upcoming film, Bitter Feast, from Glass Eye as well. REVIEW: Romano's Shock Festival

(Full Disclosure: Although I have a small cameo in this book on the fake poster for Sister Disco, it was not in the preview edition I reviewed and thus did not influence my judgement.)

Fans of the Phantasm series have been pretty aware lately of a writer named Stephen Romano. He's been collaborating with Don Coscarelli on numerous projects (Incident On and Off A Mountain Road as well as unproduced scripts for Bubba Nosferatu and Phantasm V) in addition to having penned several acclaimed books. His latest creation, Shock Festival, is about to hit book store shelves and I've prepared a review for the Archives.

I was e-messaging with Stephen nearly a year ago when he first told me about his plans for the new book. He'd spent a good while of his recent life creating posters, lobby cards, quads, artwork, magazine articles and advertisements for a whole slew of fake movies. Not just any fake movies, but films that would give your local grindhouse theater a run for their money. As he finished telling me his concept, my only thought was: "This is bloody brilliant."
