Scrimm addresses Phantasm 5 Rumors

Angus Scrimm appeared this afternoon on filmmaker Jim McKenny's radio show, "The MonsterPants Are On" over at CultRadioAGoGo.com. Together McKenny and his guest traversed a wide variety of topics including this summer's blockbusters, the Golden age of Hollywood, Angus' terrific work with MonsterPants/Glass Eye Pix and.... get ready for it... the recent rumors regarding Phantasm 5. His comments about that last topic:

"I've talked with an even more reliable source and that's Don Coscarelli himself and he has nothing to announce yet. I've never been approached nor been asked if I would be available at such a time to do anything in it. I don't think there is a definite script or a definite plan to start shooting a Phantasm 5. I know that he has footage that he's been working on experimentally, but if any of that will turn up in a Phantasm 5, I don't know. He's constantly thinking about it but this year he's been just completely immersed in the writing, preproduction, production, postproduction and promotion of John Dies at the End." - Angus Scrimm

The Tall Man actor also gave a very kind shout-out to the Phantasm Archives website, which he said "has all kinds of wonderful material on the Phantasm series," and gave mention to the Chief Archivist's upcoming book on the making of the first four Phantasm films, the exact details of which will appear here at a later date.

New Phantasm 5 Rumblings

In case you missed it, Dread Central has reported movement on Phantasm 5. As can be expected, the fans are suspicious and the Phantasm camp is neither confirming nor denying anything: http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/56209/exclusive-phantasm-5-reality

I can personally vouch that something IS happening in the Phantasm world, but can't comment on the specifics just yet without a hungry silver sphere showing up at my door. Let us not forget, however, that there has been actual filming on a new Phantasm project going on since 2008 with nothing official having come out about it yet. This isn't exactly news (see here from 2009: http://phantasmarchives.blogspot.com/2009/08/secret-phantasm-project.html) and the rest of the internet seems not to have noticed this project yet.

It remains to be seen whether this new Phantasm movement involves the completion of that secret project or an entirely new venture.

Fan Art: Charles Grey

A couple of months back, my inbox was graced by the following pieces of Phantasm fan art. Both are by artist Charles Grey, whose terrific DeviantArt gallery you're invited to peruse here. You've got to love how the spheres seem to pop right off the screen in the first image, which is called "Let there be Dark." The second image, which is titled "Lord of the Dead" and is my favorite of the two, leaves me wondering what exactly might be lurking behind the Tall Man's mischievous look? Maybe a purpose for the ball in hand? Either way, do enjoy these images in higher-resolution by clicking on them and the rest of Charles' work on DeviantArt.

REVIEW: Satan Hates You

Although it's been out on DVD for a few months, I've just now managed to post my review of Satan Hates You, one of the more recent projects from the MonsterPants crowd. The film is noteworthy for being the first teaming of Angus Scrimm and Reggie Bannister since 1998's Phantasm Oblivion. Both the film itself and this review have been a long time coming with Scrimm first mentioning his performance in the film to us in our 2007 interview with him. Five years later, how does the resulting film rate? Read on for more.

Reggie vs Dwarves

"Come on, you muthas!" These words spring to mind when I look at artist Zach Castedo's latest work entitled "Reg vs Dwarves." This exceptional piece of fan art depicts Reggie, chainsaw in one hand and four-barrel in the other, facing down an angry dwarf mob. For two of the unlucky minions, Reggie is actually de-facing them. The moon aglow against black night is a nice tough as well. The artist is currently in the process of setting up a new website, but you can view more of his work over on his DeviantArt gallery (the Troll 2 poster is worth checking out). Rob Zombie Has Phantastic Taste in Movies

The 2011 Eyegore Awards were recently held in California as part of the opening night of Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights. Seen here in this photo taken from Sheri Moon Zombie's website is her rockstar filmmaking husband, Rob Zombie, sporting a wicked cool Phantasm t-shirt. This wouldn't be the first time Rob has gone public with his enjoyment of the Phantasm series and hopefully won't be the last!
