Sweet Tall Man Pumpkin Carving

Here is what I guarantee to be the coolest Tall Man pumpkin carving you'll see today. It comes to us from PhantasmCommunity.com's own Nat Tomaszewski. Click any of the below photos to enlarge. "You carve a good pumpkin, girl. But the carving is finished. Now we have.... PIE!"

REVIEW: Angus Scrimm in RED 71

In advance of its DVD release next week, I've sat down to review the 2008 film-noir indie by director Patrick Roddy, Red 71, which features Angus Scrimm in a supporting role as a coroner. I'll say it again in my actual review below, but I think a handful of movie-goers will come to Red 71 for Scrimm and wind up staying for the film itself, which I found to be absorbing entertainment. If nothing else, phans should get a laugh out of seeing Scrimm's light-hearted turn as coroner as opposed to scary mortician. Click here to read my review of the film and as always, click on any image to see it larger.

The teaser features a good look at the film's terrific cast including star Chase Williamson, Paul Giamatti, Doug Jones, Clancy Brown and even a brief look at Angus Scrimm's character. According to the official website, "The End Begins in 2012."

Phantasm Pinball!

How has no one thought of this before now, this ideal marriage of movie and game? I'm talking about Phantasm Pinball, what else?! Phantasm Community forum member KingBaggot stopped by earlier today to let us know he'd created just that - or an online flash version of it, anyway. Set to the first film's theme music, the ball is actually a silver sphere (and even sprouts the occasional drill!) and the table is booby-trapped with dwarves, tuning forks, a coffin, the Fortuneteller's black box, a spacegate and the Tall Man himself! Fear not - allies Reggie, Jody and the Fortuneteller are on your side.

You can check out an early concept sketch of the table by clicking the image to your left or you can proceed into gameplay by clicking here. KingBaggot's blog can be found here. My personal compliments to the King for creating such an awesome game. It's hot as love!

Cover Art: SATAN HATES YOU

The cover artwork for the upcoming October 18 DVD release of Satan Hates You has appeared online (source: Shock Till You Drop). The DVD art features Angus Scrimm and Reggie Bannister, both of whom have terrific parts in the film along with genre fixtures Michael Berryman, Debbie Rochon and Larry Fessenden.

I hope to have my review for this one posted soon here on the Archives. I don't mind telling you in advance that I thought it was deliciously evil fun! Click the cover to enlarge it.

(Note of trivia: This is the first time Angus and Reggie have both appeared in a film since Phantasm Oblivion!)

Phantasm II on Ain't It Cool

Head on over to Ain't It Cool News to see three very rare and very high-resolution Phantasm II pictures from the personal archives of special makeup effectsman Mark Shostrom. Ain't It Cool writer Quint recently featured the photos as part of his smashing "Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day" column and gave a kind nod to The Phantasm Archives and your Chief Archivist here. Much appreciated and yes, it is very cool.

For more behind the scenes photos from Phantasm II (and from Phantasm III), visit the website for Mark's new effects company, Hello Boss Effects, which is hosted right here on the Archives.

Cinema Overdrive's PHANTASM Poster

My hat is truly off to Danny Miller and the boys at Cinema Overdrive for creating this spectacular new Phantasm poster, which celebrates a screening of the original film happening next Saturday night, July 23rd in my own state of North Carolina (nothing could be finer!). To sweeten the deal, Phantasm is being shown on a double-bill with rock musical Phantom of the Paradise. For more about the screening, visit the Cinema Overdrive website, which will also be posting information about how you can obtain a print of Danny 's poster. The print-run is reported to be extra-limited to only 79 copies. Look closely and you can see the names of the Deadpit crew on the gravestones!
