Phantasm Getting French Blu-Ray Set Next Month
On the heels of this week's news of a ridiculously limited French Blu-Ray set, we've learned that there will also be a standard French Blu-Ray set coming out this Halloween. Amazon France shows a listing for a Phantasm Lintegrale Cult Edition Blu-Ray slated for release on October 31, 2017. Their listing contains a full rundown of extras, which isn't as comprehensive as either the Well Go (USA) or Arrow Video (UK) sets, but still pretty decent. At least one feature on Phantasm II appears to be new (Interview 2017 de Guy Astic et Julien Maury) and may only be relevant to French phans.
This box set is also packing a sixth disc of extras and a new 152-page book written by Marc Toullec, both of which are also part of the limited edition set. Like that set, this one is coming from ESC Collectibles.

French Phantasm Box Set Has Incredible Packaging
First we had the Well Go USA set. Then we had the Arrow Video sphere set. Now we're getting a collectible Tall Man box set from France? What!?
ESC Collectibles is reportedly launching a new box set of all five Phantasm movies. I haven't found a release date yet, but they're boasting that it will pack a ton of bonus features as well as a new 200-page book written by Marc Toulec. ESC is also reporting that this incredible release will be "limited to 300 certified and numbered copies." And you thought Well Go sold through their 10,000 box sets quickly....
Will report more information once it's available!

Phantasm Fan Film Controversy
It came to my attention over the weekend that there has been some silly controversy regarding a new Phantasm fan film that’s in the works. Not a professional production, mind you, but a purely amateur effort of the smallest scale. I’m only barely sticking my nose in this one, so I won’t name the film or filmmaker here nor all the parties involved. To put it lightly, there has been much self-important chest beating from people who ARE NOT Don Coscarelli. So... what does Phantasm's creator actually think of fan productions?
To my knowledge, he's never released an official statement on the subject, but Coscarelli has always been incredibly supportive of his phanbase - including the creation of fan art. I remember in 2007 when the official website was relaunched (see screenshot below), one of the features Coscarelli hoped to introduce was a PHAN FILM CONTEST. What does that tell ya?
Phans, don't let yourself get discouraged by people who are not Don Coscarelli. Stay within tasteful and respectful bounds, but remember that no one has any claim to Phantasm beyond its creator.
You can’t spell sycophancy without PHAN.

Phantasm Flicks Getting Spiffy New German Blu-Ray Steelbooks
German phans, you're in luck! Black Hill Pictures has announced Blu-Ray Steelbooks of Phantasm, Phantasm II and Phantasm III. They already have the fifth film in circulation, so one can only assume that Phantasm Oblivion will eventually be joining the round up. The first film is slated for release on September 28, the second film on October 26 and the third film on November 23.
The first film's Steelbook release will include three different covers, the most interesting of which boasts new artwork by artist Graham Humphreys, who is also illustrating the second and third film's Steelbooks. The third film's artwork has not yet been revealed. Yay for Reggie Bannister who has finally landed on a Phantasm II cover!

New Line considered pitting the Tall Man against Freddy & Jason?!
Here is something you don't see every day. Bloody-Disgusting managed to get their hands on some internal documents from New Line Cinema back when they were considering moving forward with Freddy vs Jason vs Ash. The documents are mighty interesting if you're a fan of those three, but they also contained a surprising name drop - The Tall Man! One page, featured below, muses on the possibility of using other horror villains such as Michael Myers, Chucky, and Pinhead, though the writer ultimately decides that Ash would work best for a new crossover sequel.
Still, it's a lot of fun to even think about the possibility. New Line would have had to strike a deal with Don Coscarelli to use the Tall Man character. Worth mentioning is that he has previously resisted multiple attempts from the studio to take part in the Phantasm series.
Who would win in a Freddy vs Jason vs the Tall Man showdown? Hit up Bloody-Disgusting to read the entire memo.

Custom Sculpt of Phantasm II-era Reggie Bannister!
The Altered State model building website has posted pictures of a terrific custom sculpt of Reggie Bannister from Phantasm II. Kick-ass chainsaw aside, the level of detail here is excellent with fun touches like the tool belt and power drill. Remarkable that the sculptor started this simply enough with a bent coat hanger!
The artist writes, "My first sculpt for someone else! Ran a little competition on Facebook for members of the group to choose a favourite character that had never been made before. Ended up with a tie 🙁 But I was up for the challenge. First winner was a huge horror movie fan. He chose the hero from a series of horror movies called Phantasm, Reggie. Described as “a shotgun and guitar-wielding mensch with a receding hairline and a turbo-charged libido”.
Can't you just hear this little Reggie yelling, "Come on, you mutha!" You can check out a ton more photos of this Reggie sculpt and see the artist's other work at The Altered State!
